Flour Tortillas

  • 2 cups (5 dl) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp oil, lard or butter
  • 3/4 cup (2 dl) warm water


  • Mix and knead until the dough comes together.
  • Cover with a lid or plastic wrap and allow to rest for at least 30 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into 12 small or 6 equal sized pieces and roll them into balls.
  • Using a rolling pin and a generously floured surface, roll the dough into very thin flat discs.
  • Cook for a few minutes on each side on a hot griddle or frying pan.
  • Allow to cool covered by a clean towel. Can be stored in a sealed plastic bag for several days.
